Barcelona no podría jugar la Liga española en caso de independencia de Cataluña

MADRID, España.- El FC Barcelona no podría disputar la Liga española de fútbol en el supuesto caso de que Cataluña se independizase, advirtió el presidente de la Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), Javier Tebas.

Preguntado en la noche del domingo en la televisión pública española TVE, Tebas explicó que la legislación vigente en España no permitiría por el momento a los clubes de Estados extranjeros participar en la Liga española, excepto a los equipos del principado de Andorra.

"La Ley del Deporte es muy clara: los únicos competidores no españoles que pueden jugar el campeonato español son los clubes andorranos", previno Tebas, reafirmando una posición ya expresada en los últimos meses.

"Si no hay negociación bilateral, es imposible que (los clubes catalanes) puedan jugar en Liga (...) Sería una Liga sin equipos catalanes, no solamente en fútbol, en Liga ACB (básquet), en Liga Asobal (Balonmano). Los equipos catalanes no podrían disputar ninguna competición en España, al menos que continúen en España", añadió el dirigente.

El Secretario de Estado (con rango casi de ministro) para el Deporte Miguel Cardenal insistió este lunes que un club como el Barcelona no podría mantener el nivel actual de competitividad sin los ingresos televisivos que recibe actualmente por participar en el campeonato español.

"En un país de ocho millones de habitantes (la población de Cataluña) podrás llegar a ser un equipo de cantera como el Ajax (Ámsterdam), el Celtic (Glasgow), el Standard (Lieja), etc... y llegar como muy lejos a los octavos, cuartos de final de la Champions", dijo Cardenal en una conferencia sobre economia en el deporte, este lunes en Barcelona.

"No es el discurso del miedo, es el discurso del realismo", añadió.

Además del FC Barcelona, club polideportivo que disputa ligas en fútbol, futsal, básquet o balonmano, hay otros equipos como el Espanyol (1ª división) o el Girona, el Llagostera o el Nastic de Tarragona en segunda división.

Cataluña celebra el domingo unas elecciones regionales cruciales. Los independentistas, que según los sondeos conseguirían una amplia victoria rozando el 50% de los votos, quieren utilizarlas como un plebiscito para lanzar un plan de separación de España en 18 meses.

Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) Mulls Points Deduction Amid Marseille-Lyon crowd trouble

Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) president Frederic Thiriez suggest points penalty for crowd trouble like the one which led to the suspension of Marseille's game against Lyon.

Last Sunday, Lyon were ahead 1-0 when commotion ensued when objects like glass bottles were thrown from the stands at visiting goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, referee Ruddy Buquet had to halt the game at 61 minutes. The referee had also halt the game previously when former Marseille winger Mathieu Valbuena was targeted by fans while waiting to take a corner. The game resumed when an announcement was made warning fans that any more problems would result in the game being abandoned, with the match eventually finishing 1-1.

Valbuena had a rough night he was booed and jeered throughout the game, fans even made a replica of him hanging by the neck. He played for Marseille for 8 seasons before joining Lyon.

The Liga de Fútbol Profesional talked about the event at a crisis meeting in Paris in which Thiriez warned trouble makers that they were making football in France look bad and could eventually end up harming their own club.

"I know that a points deduction is painful because it punishes the players who've often done nothing," he told reporters.

"It could seem unfair but isn't it really dissuasive? The disciplinary committee has already applied it there are some precedents. Shouldn't we be stricter in this way?"

Thiriez also said that they will be reinstalling protective netting to stop objects being thrown on to the field of play and condemned a "serious deficiency" in security measures at the Stade Velodrome.

"Glass bottles were able to be thrown in the direction of the players, which is absolutely intolerable. When clubs do their work, things go well. Yesterday it didn't work and the club will have to explain why.

Marseille is a special case, some would say unique -- so it's not reasonable that the club might not know who is in the stands."

Jean-Michel Aulas Lyon president of Lyon charge Marseille of fanning vendetta against Valbuena. The Patrick Kanner, French Minister for Sport said that he was "sickened" to watch Sunday's events.

"I'm sickened," Kanner told BFM TV. "It's a very sad image of sport that we're giving. The people involved have to be punished."

"The gallows with the puppet of Valbuena -- that's unacceptable when you know what Valbuena brought to Marseille.

"And then there were the comments of the president of Marseille, Vincent Labrune -- comments that weren't equal to the event.

"I would have preferred more firmness towards supporters who were awful during a good part of the game."

Brazil win over Spain for the Confederations Cup

RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil dominated the world and European champions Spain 3-0 to win a third straight Confederations Cup title with a brilliant display of football skills which left the Maracana Stadium in jubilation on Sunday.

The turbo-charged samba stars roared to victory with two goals from Fred and a stunning strike from Neymar, dominating a weary Spanish side whose strength was sapped after edging Italy on penalties in Thursday's semi-final.

A miserable night for Spain also saw them miss a second half penalty when Sergio Ramos shot wide from the spot before Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was sent off for a professional foul on Neymar.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said the result as the perfect fillip as he plots a course to an assault on next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.

"People know a much tougher event is coming up (next year)," said Scolari.

But he noted: "We can set out on the journey with a little more confidence."

Spanish counterpart Vicente del Bosque meanwhile admitted his side had been outclassed on the night.

"There are no excuses. Brazil were better than us. We must congratulate them," del Bosque said.

The touchpaper for an electrifying evening at one of the most iconic venues in football was set during the pre-match ceremonies as Brazil's fans in a 73,531-crowd belted out a spine-tingling rendition of the national anthem.

The stirring anthems came as police clashed with protesters outside the ground before kick-off, the latest in a series of violent confrontations which have dogged the tournament since it kicked off.

With the euphoric stadium crowd behind them, Brazil raced into a 1-0 lead after only two minutes through Fred's first of the night.

Hulk lifted over a cross and Neymar slid a hopeful ball to the centre forward, who was prone in the box as he flung out his right leg to hook home from point blank range past helpless Spanish custodian Iker Casillas.

Oscar then fired a low shot just wide after Fred played on a Neymar flick before a Paulinho chip almost embarrassed Casillas as Brazil poured forward, visibly boosted by the overwhelming din of support cascading down from stands.

Scolari, who led the Brazilians to their last World Cup success 11 years earlier to the day, had begun the event playing down expectations after the legendary Pele slammed the current side as not good enough to win top prizes.

But in recent days, Scolari had suggested now was the time for next year's World Cup hosts to show they are back in business.

Rarely on a football field was a message delivered so emphatically as the hopes of the Spanish, struggling to impose their high tempo possession game, withered and died.

Spain central defender Pique, already booked for a first half challenge, was sent off for taking Neymar's legs under him after the break - the bearded star left the fray to chants of "Shakira," his Colombian partner.

Had Spain found some of the singer's rhythm they might have stood a chance - but such was the pace of the hosts' high-speed interplay they were down and out after David Luiz made a superlative block in the 42nd minute.

Torres and Juan Mata produced an all-Chelsea interplay before sending Pedro away and the Barcelona forward arrowed an effort goal-wards with Julio Cesar stranded.

As Brazilian hearts leapt into mouths, Luiz threw himself across the goal-line to clear - prompting cheering that echoed back from the rafters.

There were niggly moments as Oscar, one of four Chelsea men on the pitch at the start, earned a booking for diving after a Ramos challenge.

Fred then saw Casillas make a fine stop with his legs from a low drive before the centre forward missed a free header.

But as the clock ticked down at the end of the first period Neymar made it 2-0, combining with Oscar before the Barcelona-bound starlet, just onside, twisted to smash an unstoppable left-footed drive past Casillas for his fourth goal of the event.

The 21-year-old vaulted the advertising hoardings to disappear in a sea of frenzied fans before embracing his teammates as the noise level climbed ever upwards.

Two minutes after the restart it was 3-0 as the swashbuckling Fred again showed why Scolari is such a fan, firing an unerring low drive wide of Casillas' outstretched arm after a brilliantly instinctive Neymar dummy.

Spain reacted as coach del Bosque, the only man to coach teams to the World Cup, the Euros and the Champions League, sent on Jesus Navas for Mata - but there would be no resurrection for Spain.

After Marcelo fouled Navas there was still time for Ramos to send a spotkick wide for Spain as his effort summed up their evening - put on the spot, and found wanting, while Brazil showed that a sixth World Cup could just be there for the taking.

El futbol con aroma a inocencia

Ayer uno de los trabajadores que marcaba la gramilla del Providence Stadium me ayudó a recordar que muchas veces los logros alejan más del éxito que los propios fracasos, y que eso también se aplica en el futbol.

Con sencillez y una risa casi burlona, ese hombre, de unos 40 y tantos y con un pasado futbolístico, me preguntó mi parecer sobre el empate 2-2 ante El Salvador.

Sin sonar prepotente, le hice ver que la afición tica siempre espera mucho del equipo y que un empate en casa nos supo tan mal como la derrota.

Él sonrió y me dijo que ese es el precio del éxito y de no aprender a manejarlo.

“Ustedes han estado en mundiales y tienen una historia que pesa, nosotros no.

“Aquí no esperamos nada de la Selección, queremos que gane y creemos que puede hacerlo, pero nada más. Esa es la diferencia de los que no tenemos nada qué perder, que para nosotros cualquier cosa es mucho”, dijo y siguió en lo suyo.

Sus palabras podrían mezclarse con el conformismo, pero para mi gusto es sencillamente una estrategia para el disfrute.

Porque aunque la eliminatoria no parece desvelar al guyanés, aquí el futbol todavía se respira con el aroma de la inocencia.

Ojo, el aficionado Guyana sabe de sus limitaciones y las acepta, pero también cree en la capacidad del equipo, alaba con pasión los éxitos y critica con dureza los errores, pero todo lo hacen con una pasión que hace rato no veo en Costa Rica.

Ellos no subestiman a nadie porque son ellos los subestimados, y se entregan en la cancha porque saben que están viviendo una oportunidad única.

Probablemente si siguen por la senda del triunfo también perderán esa inocencia, igual que le pasó a Costa Rica hace años, cuando tuvo una probadita de gloria.
